Ladies and gentlemen, there was a time where we used very vivid colors in our designs. This Russian illustrator is very talented. Behold, Alexandre Efimov:

The Vault

Now, before you go scrolling past this as though it’s just like every other architecture post you’ve seen, notice the arwork on the facades. Really, that’s what this is about. You see, the cool people at Oppenheim Architecture + Design are building a art storage facility in Miami, USA that will display artwork by artists around the world. Essentially, it will be a building that acts as a blank canvas to promote artists currently in the showrooms. This 11-story building has plans for completion by 2010.

Eric Lerner & Sigur Ros

I couldn’t stop watching this short film/unofficial music video for Sigur Ros - “Gong”. Eric Lerner felt it would be a good idea to do a bit of a social experiment with one get’ and a LED box that lights up according to his mood. Drama? Yes.

Luckily for Eric, I am both a fan of Sigur Ros and shiny objects that light up. I actually watched it multiple times. The ending is explosive.

Andrea Galvani

First I saw the funny floating balloons, then the cute bunnies dissapearing in fog, and now cats that just scare everything out of me. I am really intrigued into how a composition like this can be created. Andrea Galvani, I am baffled and oddly impressed.

Coat Rack with your photo

Product designers seem to like coat hooks. That may not be a very astute observation, but I say this mainly because I often see very different takes on the look and function of coat hooks. I myself have fitted our office with “Here” hooks, and at the time I thought that was the most innovative hook I’ve seen in some time.

A mere two years have gone by and I have seen hooks and racks of all styles, but none like this. No sir, I have never seen a photo associated to a coat hook. I find these coat racks to be a very cool idea, though I will note that if I walk a corner and see one of these in the corner of my eye, I will send a karate chop to the head for the fear of my own life. Will it break is the true question…

Big Buck Bunny Movie

True, I have been gone for sometime now. Within those 5 months since my recent post, I have learnt a few things. One thing I know now is robots as clocks will always be unbelievably awesome. Robots in general will always be unbelievably awesome. I can only assume Tokyobay has noticed this and is capitalizing on the idea. Tokibots come in all shapes and colors and have a price tag that make robots that tell you time affordable.

Big Buck Bunny Movie

I have been following and waiting eagerly for this short movie to be complete, and now the time has come! The reason why I have been so intrigued in this is because it was made with FREE open source 3d software, called Blender. I have been a bit skeptical about using it, but seeing this motion piece definitely impresses me.

Big Buck Bunny reminds me of one of those Pixar shorts. I like the fact that it’s short and not overdone, and I also like how more attention is put into those few minutes. The characters are funny and well modeled and the story is enough to grab your attention as well. Check it out if your into things with a similar flair to Shrek.

Lens Bracelets by Re:vision

Really neat idea here. These bracelets are created from recycled camera lens! The reasons I love them are: I love the colors used on cameras, I love the small type, and I love the idea of taking a camera that is typically known for creating art, and actually making art out of the camera.

These are all one of a kind, so get them while they are still around! Prices range between $190 and $265. You can purchase them at Oye Modern.

MP3 Amp

The MP3 Amp is simply a speaker for MP3 players or any audio device that can be plugged in with 1/4 audio jack. When I first saw this, it immediately made me think of these miniature amps that Marshal makes for guitar players. Essentially making it so you can rock out anywhere. This speaker definitely has a cool look to it and it will grab attention if you own one. Once the music is playing, you can even adjust the treble and bass as you would a standard amplifier. Pretty neat, and the price is pretty miniature too!

The Small Stakes

The Small Stakes is a independent design studio run by Jason Munn. For the most part, I think all the pieces in the portfolio are excellent. I am a big fan on simplicity done right, mainly because I love how you can still get such a big message out of something simple or small, and The Small Stakes definitely hit the nail on the head with that. Which, I have to add, is pretty difficult. The ‘Less is more’ approach isn’t as simple as most think.
